The bite of Huntsman Spiders is of low risk to humans.

Huntsman spiders are a non-aggressive group of spiders. They are very timid and will try to avoid and when encountered can move at lighting-fast speed to escape human contact.

However, a large individual can give a painful bite.

Beware in summer when the female Huntsman Spider is guarding her egg sacs or young.

Area of distribution - found across Australia, including Tasmania.

Size - the size of an adult varies greatly around 15 mm in body length, and has long legs extending 160 mm outstretched top to bottom.

Habitat - this spider is hunter that prefers to live under the flaking bark of trees, under flat rocks and under eaves or within roof spaces of buildings.

Huntsman spiders are often found by the home-owner in the garden, under the bark of a tree.

They also has a tendency to wander inside homes in search of food and shelter.
