LOW RISK TO HUMANS - ENVIRONMENTALLY BENEFICIAL

Orb Weaving Spiders are a non-aggressive group of spiders.

The bite of the Garden-Orb and other Orb Weaving Spiders is of low risk to humans.

There are no reported instances of any serious consequences of human contact with these spiders ... excepting the fright of walking into their large web and the spider crawling over the person involved.

Area of distribution - found across Australia, including Tasmania.

Size - the size of an adult is about 30 mm in body length.

Habitat - this spider is a web-weaver usually found in summer in garden areas around the home.

Orb Weaving Spiders are considered beneficial as they spin a large web (2 metres or more) to snare flying insects, such as flies and mosquitoes.
